Frequently asked questions

What AI readiness means, how the score is produced, and what it can and cannot tell you about your website.

What is Generative Engine Optimisation?

Generative Engine Optimisation, or GEO, is the practice of preparing a website so that search engines and AI assistants can access it, interpret it and represent the business accurately.

It covers the same foundations as good technical and editorial work: reachable pages, clear structure, accurate business details and machine-readable information.

What does AI ready mean?

AI ready means your website provides a clear, accessible and consistent foundation that automated systems can work with.

It does not mean your business will be mentioned in AI answers. We measure readiness, which is observable, rather than presence, which is not.

Is GEO different from SEO?

They overlap heavily. Traditional SEO focuses on ranking in a list of results, while GEO also considers whether a system can extract and restate your information correctly.

In practice most GEO work is careful technical and content work that also helps conventional search.

Does a high score guarantee that AI assistants will mention my business?

No. Nothing can guarantee that, and we will never claim otherwise.

The score measures observable signals on your website. It does not reproduce the private ranking or retrieval systems used by Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity or any other provider.

What does the free test examine?

The free AI Readiness Test retrieves your homepage, robots.txt, sitemap.xml and llms.txt, then runs deterministic checks across seven categories and returns a score out of 100 with the evidence for every result.

It is a homepage-level test, so checks that need more pages are marked as not tested rather than guessed.

What is included in the $10 Complete Audit?

The Complete Audit examines up to 25 selected public pages, looks at site-wide consistency and internal architecture, measures homepage mobile performance, and produces a prioritised action plan with drafted implementation content and a private PDF report.

It is saved to your account with your audit history.

Why is my audit coverage below 100%?

Coverage tells you how much of the scoring system could actually be tested. When a check has no evidence available it is excluded rather than failed, and the score is renormalised across the checks that were tested.

Lower coverage usually means pages could not be retrieved, or that a signal simply does not exist on the website.

Does my website need an llms.txt file?

It is optional. It is one small component worth five points, and it is only useful when its contents are accurate and its links work.

A well-written llms.txt is a helpful summary for AI clients. It is not a route into AI results on its own.

Can GEO Engine tell me whether to update or replace my website?

A Complete Audit produces one of four outcomes: maintain, optimise, modernise or consider rebuilding, together with the evidence behind it.

It is a diagnostic aid, not an instruction. Website age is never used on its own, and cost and business needs should also be weighed.

How often should I test my website?

Test after any significant change to your website, and otherwise monthly for a stable site or weekly if you publish often.

Scheduled monitoring runs the audit for you and tells you what changed.

Is it safe to enter my website address?

Yes. We only request public addresses over HTTP or HTTPS, validate every destination and redirect before requesting it, refuse private and internal addresses, send no cookies or credentials, and apply strict timeouts and response size limits.

We never execute scripts from the websites we retrieve.

Do you store my website content?

We store extracted facts and short evidence snippets needed to explain each result. We do not keep full copies of your pages.

You can ask us to remove stored audit or contact information at any time.

Can I cancel monitoring at any time?

Yes. Monitoring is a monthly subscription that you can cancel yourself from your account at any time, and it runs to the end of the period you have paid for.

What happens to my reports after cancellation?

Your existing reports and PDFs stay in your account and remain readable. Only future scheduled audits stop.

Who can help implement the recommended changes?

Any developer or agency you trust can implement the recommendations, because every one of them names the evidence and the change required.
